Project Background
A copper/gold mine near Mt Isa, Queensland required a comprehensive monitoring system to be installed across their site to provide near real-time data on local meteorological conditions, surface water levels and flood plain inundation events to trigger flood warning alarms.
The mines remote location meant no cellular coverage was available and the monitoring areas were difficult to access.
EWS supplied and installed our satellite telemetry enabled Solar-Mount devices which were connected to automatic weather stations and water level sensors to reliably log and transmit this critical data.
Our device's unique internal alarm threshold, and relay switch activation ability was configured to activate flashing beacons which will provide visual warnings of flooding at key channel crossings.
Solutions
The EWS Solar-Mount devices provided the customer with an ideal solution to the remote monitoring requirements of the mine. The compact and discreet Solar-Mount allowed for installation time and environmental impact to be greatly reduced by eliminating the need for transporting bulky equipment into remote and hard to access areas. The versatility of the device means that weather and surface water data can be reliably transmitted via Iridium satellite comms while on site flood warning alarms can be triggered direct from device, providing workers with immediate visual warning of road flooding.
Outcomes & Benefits
Our Satellite telemetry devices provided a comprehensive monitoring network which was quickly, and cost effectively deployed. The remote data will give mine engineers access important near real-time information on the dynamic hydrology of the mine site while the flood warning system will offer an important layer of safety to mine workers.
